Please contribute to our campaign for a new EMS Rescue Boat
Our current rescue boat is a 25-year-old pontoon boat. However, it is no longer viable as a reliable first response EMS boat due to its age, numerous repair needs, and lack of critical life-saving equipment. Missing equipment includes a proper lift mechanism and a fold-down door, essential for safely raising patients out of the water and onto the boat. Our current rescue boat was out of service for 21 days during the peak season last year.
The warm side of Lake Anna has water emergency backup from New Bridge Fire and EMS, but it is located on the cool side of Lake Anna. The prep and transport time of the backup boat can take an hour of critical rescue time because Lake Anna is divided into two separate bodies of water by three land dykes, per Dominion Power operations requirements. This separation creates a unique emergency service barrier.
Water emergency calls have included missing boaters, watercraft crashes, sinking boats, severe propeller injuries, dock crush injuries, and drowning incidents.
Our rescue boat is centrally located in a dedicated warm-side boat slip and is deployable for rapid emergency response.
The NEW rescue boat will be a licensed OEMS Vehicle, built with current life-saving equipment that will meet and exceed all required specifications. It will also be a Regional Asset for Louisa County.
We are a 100% Volunteer Rescue Station and rely on your donations and support to aid us in the purchase of this essential rescue watercraft for the safety of our rapidly growing community*.
*Lake Anna has 2,500+ waterfront and water access homes, a growth rate of 8.5%, which is ten times the national average, and welcomes over 125,000 visitors each year.
